Vampire Novels..is the trend over?

I've been on a lot of writing message boards recently because I am trying to pick up pointers on my writing. Most of the websites I go to are for young adult authors. I am noticing a lot of people are tired of vampire novels. Many have said that the market has become watered down by these poorly written books. Some have stated that teens are tired of it and are looking for something different. I have noticed my students are not taking out as many vampire novels as they have in previous years.

So my question to you(and I'd love to hear from everyone, students, librarians, casual readers)...

Is the vampire trend over? Or is it as strong as ever?

I hope so. I'm not a fan of vampire novels and I would love to see some new topics become popular so there's a better variety of books.

It's very much winding down. From what I hear in the selling side, it'll stay up like this for another year or so before the next wave of books comes in to water down all the vampires. Editors are just not buying them unless they really, REALLY stand out because there's so much out there. So I don't think this trend has much more staying power if you go by the manuscripts being bought.

And a good writing site, www.absolutewrite.com/forums if you haven't been already.

In fact I no longer find YA novels as appealing. There's always a dominant trend of a certain theme. I don't read much of the genre so I might not be qualified to judge. But I hope to read something thought-provoking. I'm not always eager to read YA books. YA stories are fit for big screens and I'd rather watch them than read them. Perhaps, there should be something fresh to win my heart back.
I notice that some authers have good writing skills but when he/she falls into this vampire craze, it's a waste to see them becoming cannon fodder.
Here's my answer to you question: vampire trend is as strong and it'll get even more publicity everytime a new Twilight movie comes out. Therefore, you see another section in the bookstore would be eagerly dedicated to everything about vampire.

I'm from Denmark, and they are still really popular here. But the "Twillight-fever" seems to be over. Of course, there is allways those people who reads the books at least 5 times, and never gets tired of it...

I've been reading vampire books for as long as I can remember (literally, I remember reading the Bailey School kids books and R. L. Stine books when I was less than double digits). Even before Twilight and the craze after it got really big, I could name you a hundred vampire novels.

So, basically, I don't think it'll ever be over, because it's not a trend. There was just a surge in people reading it.

Least that's my opinion.
